Ex-Aston Villa forward states which players Tottenham need to offload

Tottenham Hotspur wants to improve its squad this January as it hopes to make additions and sell off players who don’t have a future in north London. Over the next couple of weeks, various names will surface either through reports or opinions on which players Spurs has to offload.

Former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor spoke to Football Insider, where he stated three players that Tottenham needs to get rid of come January. Spurs began revamping its central defense, but Agbonlahor says the turnover needs to continue.

“I just don’t think Rodon is good enough, to be honest. Eric Dier, I don’t think is good enough; Sanchez is not good enough. Spurs haven’t improved their center-halve since Toby Alderweireld, and Jan Vertonghen were there. They were good center-halves; they were strong,” Agbonlahor said.

“The center-halves they have there are not good enough. I’m sure Conte, who bases his teams on their defense, will want to fix that problem by bringing in some center-halves.”

Over the summer, Tottenham began injecting some youth into the central defense when they brought in Cristian Romero. The Argentine defender was the first building block in replacing veteran central defenders Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Spurs hope to pair with another central defender to be their duo for the coming years, but first, it seems as though they’ll need to clear out defenders who don’t have a place in the Antonio Conte era.
