Even £2M Rated Striker Snubbed Chance To Understudy Kane

By The Boy -

Swedish outlet Aftonbladet are running an interview with Swansea City striker Joel Asoro, in which he reveals Tottenham tried – and failed – to sign him this summer.

The predictable stumbling block was playing second fiddle to Russia 2018 Golden Boot winner Harry Kane.

Money was a motivator, but not sufficient to outweigh the value that regular club football would add to to his international prospects.

“We had [sic] sat talking to Tottenham and they said they could not promise anything about playing time. It does not hurt with higher pay but I thought more about playing. Should I compete seriously about playing in the U21 national team, I need to play in the club team as well.’

Whilst this is notionally unsurprising, what doesn’t sit well is that yet again Spurs have gone so far the footballing food-chain in their search for a player.

THFC are keen to charge some of the highest ticket prices in the Premier League, yet there is a genuine reticence when it comes to investing in the playing personnel.

And of course, this emphasises further that the Academy is a waste of time.

It couldn’t even rustle up a forward as good as the former Sunderland £2million man.
