Euro outfit impose condition for transfer as they prepare to sign Tottenham outcast

Real Betis have set their condition to sign Tottenham outcast Giovani Lo Celso, demanding a free release from Spurs.

Nabil Fekir is closing in on a move to Al-Jazira. With the French World Cup winner’s departure almost certain, Real Betis have been on the lookout for an ideal replacement. While Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos seems to be their priority target, signing him from the Spanish giants in the final hours of the window won’t be easy.

As a result, they are looking to bring Giovani Lo Celso back to the club and according to a report from Estadio Deportivo, Betis have set their terms to sign the Tottenham outcast. The Spanish outfit will only go ahead with a move for the 28-year-old if Spurs are willing to release him for free.

Lo Celso arrived at the English club back in 2019. While he was expected to reach great heights, things haven’t worked out for him at Tottenham. He has spent a significant time out on loan. Ange Postecoglou wanted him around for the 2023/24 season but the Australian manager could only hand him 597 minutes of first-team action spread across 24 outings.

The Argentine international is surplus to requirements and with his contract running out in less than 12 months, Spurs are looking to get him off their books. While Betis do not intend to pay a transfer fee, the North London club are refusing to release Lo Celso for free.

The former PSG midfielder is well aware of the fact that Betis want to bring him back to the club thanks to his impressive performances for them back in the day. José Miguel López Catalán is leading the Spanish club’s pursuit. But, with them pushing for a free transfer, things could get a bit complicated as we head into the final hours of the window.
