Tottenham Hotspur didn’t consider selling Cristian Romero in the summer despite interest from European heavyweights.

After making a name for himself at Atalanta, Cristian Romero made the move to the North London club in the summer of 2019. He has only gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

His work hasn’t gone unnoticed and multiple top clubs knocked on the doors of Spurs during the recently concluded transfer window. But, according to Gastón Edul, Tottenham made it clear that he is not for sale. They didn’t even bother to put a price tag on the Argentine World Cup winner who is considered to be an integral part of their plans moving ahead.

Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid were all keen on his signature as they looked to reinforce their backline. The 26-year-old could significantly bolster their defence and they were ready to go big to add him to their squad. But Spurs didn’t want to negotiate his departure.

The Argentine centre-back is considered to be one of the pillars of their new project under Ange Postecoglou and they want him around for as long as possible. While Spurs do not want to sell him irrespective of the price, the interested clubs are expected to return next summer when Romero will only have two years left on his deal at the North London club. His future might depend on his willingness to pen down a new deal and commit his long-term future to the club.
