‘elegant, skilful’ – Tottenham youth in the mix for Liverpool clash

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur’s young talent, Jamie Donley, could be in contention for a spot in the squad for the upcoming clash against Liverpool.

The official Tottenham Hotspur website shared training images ahead of the weekend game, and one of the pictures featured 18-year-old Jamie Donley.

Donley has been making a name for himself in the Tottenham academy and is regarded as a future star for the club.

This season, he has been in impressive form, recording six assists and one goal from six Premier League 2 games.

Donley has also shone in the EFL Trophy, contributing two goals and one assist against Colchester.

Jack Pitt-Brooke, a journalist for The Athletic, described Donley as a “natural footballer” with an “elegant” and “skilful” playing style.

Pitt-Brooke highlighted Donley as one of the best young talents coming through at Tottenham and someone to watch out for.

Speaking on the View from the Lane, he said:

“I think the best young player they’ve got is a lad called Jamie Donley.”

“He was born in Northern Ireland, I’ve seen him play actually, and he played in that game he was good.

“He’s a natural footballer, lots of time on the ball, elegant, skilful.

“He was playing in attacking midfield but I gather he can also play up front.

“He’s very highly rated and is thought to be the best of his generation coming through at Tottenham at the moment, so he’s one to watch out for.”

Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, has a reputation of trusting and developing young players, and he may see Donley as a talent worthy of involvement with the senior squad.

This season, 21-year-old Pape Matar Sarr has already made a breakthrough under Postecoglou, starting every game alongside Yves Bissouma since the season opener.

Donley could be the next academy player to make his mark in the first team if given the opportunity.
