Richarlison’s transfer from Everton wasn’t something that on paper made any sense to me whatsoever. As I’ve detailed previously, the voices e x p l a i n i n g the move to me sounded all too similar to those that have leaped to defend far too many other implausible situations involving this football club.
The Brazilian has summarily failed to set any of his Premier League sides alight and all the old toffee about elements of his game that statistics couldn’t capture left me oscillating between hysteria and depression.
Here we are, not many games in, and we find ourselves staring at two assists and two goals. All of which have been rather fine examples of the genre. Tangible results.
So have I changed my mind? A resounding ‘no’, on that one as I always stated very clearly that I hoped he would be good, but there was little to suggest that he might be. I was also aware that in his wake were many fans from several other sides who had also hoped for an improvement to happen, and it never did.
For the money, the boy is on course to represent value for money, and like his Champions League exploits last night, that’s another first.
