Dutch giants expressing interest in Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn

Tottenham Hotspur is currently looking to make additions to fix the current squad’s backline. However, the London-based is also looking to shed off players who have no future with the club.

One name that could depart this summer is Steven Bergwijn. The 23-year-old arrived last summer and made 51 appearances for Tottenham while scoring four goals and registering eight assists.

After one season, Bergwijn’s time with Tottenham could be coming to an end as Netherlands journalist Mike Verweij (via Vital Football) reports that Dutch giants Ajax AFC have expressed interest in Bergwijn. The left-winger has spent plenty of time in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven.

Bergwijn made 149 appearances with PSV, where he scored 31 goals and 41 assists, so with the FIFA World Cup around the corner, the winger could be open to a return to the Netherlands should a suitable offer come on the table.

Furthermore, Tottenham is on the verge of landing Bryan Gil, who plays left-wing too, and so Bergwijn could see the writing on the wall that if he sticks around, there will be a fight for minutes.
