Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.
The 27-year-old recently served a suspension for breaching the FA gambling regulations, but he is now cleared to return to action in the Premier League.
The striker has been linked with several top clubs including Chelsea and Arsenal. However, journalist Ryan Taylor has now revealed that Tottenham are very much interested in the striker as well.
“I have always understood that Spurs are a team that have been looking at Toney, I don’t know if they have the muscle to compete with Chelsea and Arsenal at the end of the season. People have shot down Spurs’ interest in Toney, whereas the information I’ve had is don’t rule out Spurs. Although Toney wants to join Arsenal and he would favour that move above anywhere else at this moment in time,” Taylor said on The Spurs Chat Podcast.
The North London club need to bring a reliable goalscorer as a replacement for Harry Kane who left the club at the start of the season. Although Tottenham have been overly dependent on Son Heung-min for goals, it is not a sustainable option and they need more depth in their attack.
They have signed Timo Werner on loan until the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether they decide to bring in Toney in the summer.
The 27-year-old is a proven performer in the Premier League and he could transform Tottenham in the final third. He could be an upgrade on Richarlison, who has not been able to live up to the expectations since the big money move from Everton.
The technically gifted Brentford attacker is more than just a goalscorer and his ability to link up with the midfielders and hold up the ball will add a new dimension to the Tottenham attack.
Arsenal want to bring in an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus as well and Toney is unsurprisingly on their radar. Jesus has scored just three Premier League goals and Toney could prove to be a much better option for the Gunners.
