Tottenham have agreed a fee of £2 million with Sheffield United to sign highly-rated young striker Will Lankshear.
The 17-year-old is set to join Tottenham’s academy after the club outbid Brentford with a ‘hugely attractive offer.’
Tottenham will pay United a guaranteed £1 million plus a further £1 million in performance-related bonuses, according to Sky Sports. Brentford had been following Lankshear for some time, believing he had huge potential and thought they had a deal in place to sign him before Spurs’ late intervention.
He is widely regarded as ‘one of the best, if not the best strikers’ in England for his age group, and he joins a Spurs academy that already boasts Troy Parrott, Dane Scarlett, and Jamie Donley in that position.
This signing comes out of nowhere and seems as if it’s the continuation of Spurs’ recent transfer policy which focuses on snapping young players for the future.
Tottenham have made notable first-team acquisitions, but their long-term vision has been just as impressive. Pape Matar Sarr, Bryan Gil, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie, and now former Arsenal man Lankshear who has been ‘banging in the goals’ for Shefiield United.
