Does Dier have a future at Tottenham? This is what Paul Robinson reckons

Eric Dier has been one of Jose Mourinho’s trusted men since the Portuguese became the Tottenham manager.

The club has tasked the Special One with taking their team back inside the top four and ending their trophy drought.

He needs the players that he can trust and Dier has been in his good books for much of his time at the helm.

The Englishman has been benched in a few games recently and that seems to suggest that Mourinho is losing faith in him.

However, former Spurs number one, Paul Robinson, expects the 27-year-old to remain a key member of the squad heading into next season.

He admits that Mourinho might bring in a new defender to reinforce his team and they could replace some of their current defenders, but he expects Dier to remain relevant in North London.

He insists that Mourinho likes Dier and that should be enough to keep him in his plans.

When asked whether Dier should be concerned about his recent omission from the side, Robinson told Football Insider: “I still think Jose is a big fan of Dier’s.

“I think he will be a part of the plans moving forward even though I think they will sign another centre-half in the summer.

“The preferred partnership right now is Sanchez and Alderweireld but Dier’s future should not be in any doubt whatsoever. He has probably had his best season at Spurs. He started off the season very well and was a regular starter.

“Yes, he has looked susceptible of late but so has Davinson Sanchez. I think another centre-half would help, and competition for places is always a good thing.”
