Deal ‘still pending’ but Tottenham have agreement in principle to sell £70k-a-week star

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The 28-year-old is no longer a key part of their plans and he needs to move on in search of regular playing time. La Liga outfit Real Betis is looking to bring him back to the club and a report from ABC Sevilla claims that they have reached an agreement in principle with the Premier League club to sign the player.

The transfer is ‘still pending’ but the two parties are optimistic about getting the deal over the line.

Betis will pay a fee of around €5 million for the South American attacking midfielder and Spurs will receive a preferential right for a future transfer of Johnny Cardoso as well.

Lo Celso will look to get his career back on track with a return to Spain. He has played for Betis in the past and he knows the La Liga club well. He will be expected to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact.

Meanwhile, Spurs will be able to recoup some money from his sale and they will be able to get his £70k-a-week wages off their books as well. It will be interesting to see if they can use those funds to improve their squad further before the window slams shut later tonight.

Spurs could use a quality backup defender and a central midfielder. It remains to be seen who they end up with.
