Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is three months into his job, and the Italian tactician has the north London club fighting for a top-four spot following their slow start to the season.
Colombian international Davinson Sanchez spoke to Sky Sports to discuss what’s life under Conte since the 52-year-old took the reins after Spurs decided to sack former manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
One of the first aspects under Conte that stick out to the defender is how demanding the former Inter Milan boss is, whether it’s during training sessions to what the players are eating to remain fit throughout the season.
“He’s demanding a lot,” Sanchez said. “Whether it be from training sessions to meetings, eating and sleeping. It’s linking with the performance work, and then that allows you to be able to help the team to make more effort on the pitch.”
“The performances are coming more easily and you feel healthy in the way that you are playing and training as well. I’m not saying we didn’t do it before, but he’s come in with his character and become more strict with the rules.”
Conte is trying to turn Tottenham Hotspur into a winner as he’s done at Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan. The Spurs manager has won the league title in those respective competitions and hopes to do the same for the north London side.
Sanchez spoke about the tactical side of how they’re playing under Conte, which has seen himself and the squad thrive as they’ve made ground after the slow start.
“I think it’s the way we play now,” Conte said. “We are taking risks, pressing high, and when we go to press, we push in front a lot.”
“I think it’s one of my skills being in one-vs-ones and trying to intercept. All these things start with a good position, with the right mentality and thinking what is happening around you.”
