Darren Bent urges Tottenham man to leave the club by Friday

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes that Eric Dier could excel at Bayern Munich if the German club signs him.

Dier is not a popular figure at the club right now with new manager Ange Postecoglou seemingly not too impressed by him.

He has not started any of the matches so far and even failed to make the squad against Fulham in the League Cup midweek despite the manager fielding a number of players that otherwise did not make it into his starting XI in the Premier League games.

Dier has been linked with a move away with this summer with Fulham one of the clubs previously keen on signing him on loan. However, it was then reported that the player preferred to stay and fight for his place.

Burnley made a surprise loan offer for him in the last 24 hours which has reportedly been rejected by Tottenham as well.

Another surprise club reportedly interested in signing him is Bayern Munich. Reports emerged yesterday that Thomas Tuchel wants to sign the versatile player following Pavard’s move to Inter with suggestions that Harry Kane put in a word for his former teammate.

Bent, speaking about Dier, stated that he still views the player as a ‘good defender’, appreciating his reading of the game and leadership qualitities.

While he suggested that the Premier League’s pace might now pose a challenge for Dier, he expressed confidence that the player would be brilliant if he moved to Bayern Munich.

Speaking about the player on talkSPORT (4:52pm, August 30, 2023), he said:

“I still think he is a good defender but lacks a yard maybe.

“I still think he reads the game well. I think he can be a good leader, but I think potentially the league is just a bit quick now.

“But if he goes to Bayern Munich, he would be brilliant over there.

“Listen, good luck to him.”
