Darren Bent questions why Tottenham want to sign a new player in this position

Tottenham has had a fine transfer window and Jose Mourinho cannot complain about the business that the club has done.

Despite Covid-19 forcing the club to be creative with how they sign players, Spurs still ended the international transfer window with the likes of Gareth Bale, Matt Doherty and Sergio Reguilon.

Tottenham is one of the best sides in the league in terms of talent and they have a backup player for every position at the moment.

However, they still want to sign a centre-back after losing Jan Vertonghen and Juan Foyth in this transfer window, but Darren Bent wonders why.

They are looking to complete a move for Swansea centre back, Joe Rodon before the local transfer window closes, but Bent thinks that they have more than enough players in every position already and they really shouldn’t be looking to sign a new centre-back.

Speaking to Talksport as cited by Football London, Bent said that even though Spurs have lost Vertonghen, they have Japhet Tanganga who can play in that position too.

During an appearance on Talksport, Bent laughed when he was told Swansea want £18m but Daniel Levy initially offered £7m.

“I thought you were going to say something like he offered £5 less,” Bent laughed.

“But listen, they seem really keen on getting him, don’t they? Rodon in the door. You look at the amount of centre-backs they have.

“I know they lost Vertonghen. But they have Toby Alderweireld, Sanchez, Eric Dier plays back there and Tanganga can play there.

“I mean, how many centre-backs are they looking for?”
