Daniel Levy Looking At €45M For Possible Eric Dier Replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are one of a host of clubs who have contacted Borussia Monchengladbach about the signing of Denis Zakaria, according to Bild.

The Swiss international has become one of the best holding midfielders in the Bundesliga at the age of only 22, and has been a key component in Gladbach storming to the top of the table prior to the international break.

The Times understands that Spurs want to recommence their squad clear-out in January and that Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama are both for sale.

That would create room for Zakaria, although Bild add that Gladbach would be looking for a transfer fee higher than the club-record amount of €45m that they recouped when they sold Granit Xhaka to Arsenal three years ago.

Another obstacle in Tottenham’s pursuit of Zakaria is interest from Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Inter Milan.

Although Zakaria would be an upgrade on what we currently have, Daniel Levy has just spent £63m on Tanguy Ndombele – fee according to Sky Sports – and another £40m+ on a defensive midfielder seems unlikely when there are other areas of the squad which are in dire need of replenishment.

Keep Dier and spend the money somewhere else.
