Daniel Levy has a huge decision to make and it is not Harry Kane

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has a lot on his plate right now, from sorting out Harry Kane’s future to hiring a new manager and everything in between.

But there is one decision that he has to make once and for all, a decision that he has to be prepared to risk everything for, including his own future.

Levy is going nowhere anytime soon, he is far too invested in Tottenham from a financial perspective and he has to realise as much money as he can before he and Joe Lewis call it a day and that will not happen until the stadium starts to pay for itself.

In the meantime, Levy has to decide on the direction of the club going forward and it probably is going to be one of the biggest decisions he has had to make in his tenure at the club.

Does he go for the quick fix, as he tried with Jose Mourinho or does he go back to a medium-term process, as he did with Mauricio Pochettino?

All other decisions are normal run of the mill ones any chairman has to make on a regular basis, who to offer new contracts to, who to sell and even who to hire and fire but they all pale into insignificance if he does not decide the direction of the club.

If he goes for the quick fix then employing a brand name manager like Max Allegri or Maurizio Sarri will be the way to go. If he goes with a five-year process then an up and coming manager with fresh ideas would be far more suitable.

There is no point hiring Scott Parker if you are expecting silverware within the next 12 months, he is simply not tooled up for that at this moment in time. Similarly, there is no point in employing Sarri if you are going for a longer-term project that requires a manager to build from the ground up.

Get this decision wrong and it could well be curtains for Levy but it is a decision he has to make now, a decision that is far more important than any other decision he makes this summer. What direction should Tottenham take going forward.

How many make-or-break summers in a row is that now? I count probably nine or ten.

He already did, with Poch but managed to alienate Poch and ruin that too

Though unlikely you can toss a coin twenty times and have tails each time. I think Levy is a similarly ‘bad penny’

Nagelsmann has reportedly reached an agreement with Bayern. We’re probably in advanced talks with Gary Monk!

Sorry Bruce, but deciding on the direction of the club and a new manager are irrelevant if Levy is going to continue to not invest in improving the players. No manager, no matter how good is going to win anything whilst Levy continues to be the living embodiment of the Alfred Einstein’s definition of insanity whilst penny pinching and missing out on quality targets that would upgrade the current bunch of no-hopers.

Nagelsmann has asked RB Leipzig to release him from his contact.

The new manager has to work, it cannot continue like this, it’s desperation time for Levy and his diminishing public image.

Every summer is presented to fans as the most important ever. Momentous decisions on spending, transfers, new contracts, new managers must be made.

My reaction now, yawn.

He’s rudderless. He’s a ships captain at sea who will never be able to suss out the gps.

Law of averages says Levy is bound to get it right eventually!
