Cristian Romero’s latest comments regarding Tottenham future might concern fans

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero’s recent comments about his future have raised concerns among fans, despite his assertion that he is not currently considering leaving the club.

He was made vice captain by the Australian manager and Romeo has stepped up his game since then.

He improved his performance as well as his discipline to put in consistent performances week in week out.

Romero’s outstanding performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from top clubs across Europe, with Real Madrid reportedly among those keen on securing his services.

In an interview with DSports’ Cómo Te Va, Romero admitted that he is not thinking about leaving the club ‘for now’.

However, he added that the offers that come up are analysed.

He said (quotes via Football London):

“The truth is that I’m fine. For now I’m not thinking about that [a transfer], I’m thinking about preparing myself these days to get to the national team in the best way possible, which is the next step I have.”

“The things that come up at the moment are obviously always analysed but I’m not thinking about the future, I’m thinking about the national team. Now that I have the Copa America, I will always try to take the national team to the top and then we will see what happens.”

While Romero’s remarks suggest a commitment to Tottenham in the short term, fans will be concerned with him seemingly keeping a future move open.

If Tottenham don’t start challenging for silverware soon, it won’t be surprising to see the World Cup winner looking elsewhere in search of trophies.
