“…could return soon with Spurs” – Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs are considering Spaniard for key role

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham are considering bringing in former Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany.

Alemany joined Barcelona in 2021 as a part of the new administration headed by president Joan Laporta and has earned praise for his commendable performance, especially in light of the club’s financial challenges.

Alemany’s notable accomplishments include playing a pivotal role in negotiating wage reductions for players.

He has been a key figure in the Barcelona hierarchy, spearheading the club’s reconstruction efforts during a critical period.

With his departure from Barcelona confirmed, Alemany is now linked to a potential move to the Premier League, with Tottenham expressing interest in his services.

Tottenham finds themselves in need of a new sporting director following the departure of Fabio Paratici. Paratici had to step down from his role after receiving a two-and-a-half-year global ban from FIFA due to his alleged involvement in financial irregularities during his time at Juventus.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham is seriously considering Mateu Alemany as a candidate for the Director of Football position.

Romano tweeted:

“EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham considering Mateu Alemany as potential option as new Director of Football starting from September.”

“Alemany will part ways with Barça on September 2 and was close to Aston Villa in June — PL opportunity could return soon with Spurs.”

This is not the first time he has been linked with a move to the Premier League. Alemany was close to joining Aston Villa back in June but ultimately chose to stay with Barcelona.

Tottenham’s interest in bringing him to Tottenham is not surprising considering Alemany’s reputation as a shrewd negotiator, a quality Levy would definitely be looking for in his sporting director.
