Conte hints when summer signing could make his first start for Spurs

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur signed Brazilian forward Richarlison from Everton for a fee of around £60 million earlier on in the summer.

The 25-year-old is expected to play a key role alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in the attack for Antonio Conte’s side.

However, the Italian manager has been patient with his big-money signing so far and Richarlison is yet to start a single game in the Premier League for the Londoners. The Brazilian has played just 63 minutes in total for his new club and all of them have come as a substitute.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Premier League clash against West Ham United, Conte has now hinted that Richarlison is likely to start a game for Spurs soon.

The Tottenham manager was full of praise for his new signing and he revealed that the Brazilian has managed to impress with his cameos.

Richarlison is well settled in the Premier League and he will be hoping to make an immediate impact at Tottenham. The Brazilian will be waiting for his opportunity eagerly and it remains to be seen whether he can make his mark against West Ham if Conte decides to start him.

Conte said to Football London: “Every time he’s playing, for 20 to 30 minutes, he’s playing very well. For sure in the next games you will see him in the starting XI.”

Regarding a start against the Hammers, Conte added: “No I didn’t say this. I said probably in the future you can see in the starting XI Richarlison. Then if the game against West Ham, Fulham or Marseille. Then I have to decide.”

I hope Sonny can buckle down and quickly get out of his own head. There is no pressure from Richarlison. Son should have the confidence to know that he is a world class player at his best, and simply push to get back to his best. If Richarlison takes some minutes, it is because Son needed the physical and mental recharge. Every player does at some point.

Hopefully Sonny can get back to playing for his mates and reaching for the collective objectives rather than poring over his own stats. A high level player is best off to ignore the fickle rabbit fans and writers, and to play for the team cause, the team objectives. A player who plays for fans and for himself is destined to be a perpetual head case until learning to let that go in favour of what actually needs to be done in the collective sense, and to fill that role.

That said, very curious to see what Richarlison can offer as a starter in various positions. He is an interesting character in this squad.
