Cold Fact: Pochettino Just 3 Games Away from Equalling George Graham’s Abysmal Record

Tottenham are now without a win in their last 11 Premier League away games (D2 L8), including a 1-2 defeat to Liverpool in March.

Levyologists and other assorted ‘enjoy the ride fanboys’ might like to know Spurs only endured a longer such run between May 2000-January 2001 under George Graham – one that lasted 14 games.

There will be calls for context after last night’s latest defeat, to mitigate a Tottenham manager whose magician status has been reduced to that of an elderly uncle doing his ‘I’m going steal your nose!’ trick, to tiny children at family get-togethers.

The problem is, banging on about the quality in this squad is now just an allegation. To realize the talent, there now has to be seismic change.

No matter what Pochettino says to this squad, they’ve heard it all before, there are only so many times the same troops can be moved by rallying cries from the same commander – especially if meaningful victory remains illusive.

10 games in, and Spurs are 10 points down on last season, with a goal difference that worse off by a margin of -7.

What stings, is the culture at Tottenham. The way a coach speaks shouldn’t sound as if it has come from the Chairman’s mouth.

We were playing today against a very good team. I think Liverpool are one of the best teams in Europe and we were very competitive.

The only time it’s acceptable for a coach to talk like this is when that coach has just watched his League 2 side beaten in the cup by the European Champions.

And so dear reader, that’s where we are. We’re a Premier league side, that were vomited out of the League cup – by a League 2 side, and are now reduced to the stakes of calling getting beaten, ‘competing’.

I’ve no animosity toward Mauricio, but he’s finished here. It is over.
