Manager feels Tottenham star is ‘pure class’ and sky is the limit for him

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg at the start of last season and he has been a key player for the club this past season.

The 23-year-old has established himself as an important starter for the North London club, and he has impressed with his performance in the Premier League.

There is no doubt that the Dutch international is a prodigious talent with a bright future and he could develop into a top-class player.

Dutch manager Wim Jonk believes that Van de Ven has everything in his locker, and there is no limit to what he can achieve in the near future.

“I went to see the under-19s, not even especially for Micky,” he said to ESPN.

“I remember him running past everyone – and as a defender, right? He showed so much courage with the ball, so much potential.

“Of course, a lot went wrong, but I thought: if we work specifically with that boy, in a few years he will not be wearing the shirt of ‘The Other Orange’, but that of the real Orange.

“We worked very specifically on his areas for improvement, but also on his weapons. The rising, the quicker response, the cross pass. He worked on the defensive aspect with Sipke Hulshoff. And don’t forget that about 5 to 10 kilos of muscle mass was added during that time.

“Defensively, he picked up every ball that fell behind the defense. Offensively, he always created a man-more situation, whether he played in the center or on the left. I remember a goal where he came through at left back, sprinted everyone out and sent the ball into the intersection. Pure class.

“Micky has no ceiling. Everything you need in today’s football – physical conditions, mental strength and the right mindset – he has that.”

The Spurs star is clearly highly rated and Tottenham will hope that he can continue to improve and fulfil his world class potential. Apart from his defensive qualities, his recovery pace has been crucial for Tottenham this past season. It has allowed them to operate in a high line and press the opposition into mistakes.

The 23-year-old has had his fair share of injury problems this past season as well and Tottenham will hope that he can get over his injury problems and stay fit for the entirety of the next season.

They will be hoping to push for trophies next year, and they need their key players fit and firing on all cylinders.
