Club seeking £20m for 28-year-old as Spurs hope to finalise transfer before deadline

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is reportedly close to leaving the club, with Real Betis pushing hard to secure his transfer.

Former Spurs scout Bryan King has revealed that the North London club is seeking around £20 million for the Argentine playmaker.

Lo Celso initially joined Tottenham on loan in the summer of 2019 before making his move permanent in January 2020.

Despite showing moments of brilliance, his time at Spurs has been marred by injuries and inconsistent form, limiting his impact on the team.

This led to two separate loan stints at Villarreal, where he enjoyed more regular playing time.

With only a year left on his contract, Tottenham are in a less advantageous position for negotiations.

King’s insights suggest that while Spurs won’t recoup their full investment in Lo Celso, they are keen to secure a fair fee, particularly given his significant wages, which have likely impacted his market value.

“They won’t get back what they paid for him, that is for sure,” King told Tottenham News.

“I’d imagine Tottenham would be looking for around £20million.”

“His wages will be quite big, which will reduce his transfer value, but Spurs will still want a decent fee for him.”

“As I said, it won’t be what they paid for him. However, a decent fee will be involved and it will be a chance for the club to get him off the wage bill.”

Real Betis have been interested in Lo Celso since June, and with the transfer window nearing its close, both the player and Tottenham will be eager to finalise the move.

For Lo Celso, a return to La Liga could provide the fresh start he needs to reignite his career.

Meanwhile, Spurs would benefit from alleviating their payroll and gaining financial flexibility to focus on other transfer targets.
