Club director hands Tottenham a boost in their pursuit of 14-goal forward

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in recent months.

The 25-year-old French international will be out of contract in the summer and Gladbach have not been able to agree on a contract extension with him yet.

Thuram is set to move on as a free agent in the summer, and the club’s sporting director Roland Virkus has now confirmed that the German club has decided to allow the Frenchman to leave the club on a free transfer.

The development will come as a significant boost for Tottenham who are hoping to bring in attacking reinforcements.

“We’ve decided to allow Thuram to leave,” Roland Virkus said to Sport1.

“The fact that he plans to leave on a free transfer is not a positive situation. I can’t sugarcoat it. We stretched ourselves with Marcus Thuram. We have to accept that there are bigger clubs Marcus might move to.”

Thuram has 14 goals across all competitions this season and he could be the ideal partner for Harry Kane next season. The England international has been carrying the goal-scoring burden this season and he needs more help and support from his teammates.

Players like Son Heung-Min and Richarlison have not been able to step up on a consistent basis and Antonio Conte needs to bring in another goal scorer.

Thuram is capable of playing anywhere across the front three and he could partner Kane or act as a cover for the England international.

Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer could prove to be a bargain for the London club and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal across the line.

The opportunity to join a Premier League club will be an attractive option for the Frenchman and he will feel that he can continue to develop and improve as a player at Tottenham.
