Careful what you wish for – forcing Daniel Levy out may backfire in the short term

Daniel Levy is hardly the most popular man at Tottenham these days, certainly with a large swathe of the fan base judging by comments on here and social media.

There is no doubt that Levy does have a lot to answer for, his failure to back Mauricio Pochettino at a crucial time has had a devastating effect on the quality of the squad and some of his transfer decisions leave a lot to be desired.

However, we are at a critical time in society as we all battle with the pandemic that has swept the world. Businesses all over the place have been hit terribly and football is no different.

Clubs have lost fortunes and apart from the very few where money is not an issue, nearly every club has to find a way back financially if they are to compete going forward.

Spurs have lost a hell of a lot of money at the wrong time, they are straddled with a huge debt and that will have a knock-on effect in the upcoming summer transfer window.

This is where Daniel Levy can be effective.

If there is one football executive that has the experience and skills to guide a club through a financial meltdown, it is Levy and for now, Spurs need him.

That may not be a popular opinion and I understand why but Spurs need to get back on a sure financial footing and in Levy, Tottenham have a man that can do that.

Once the club is secure financially, then and only then should questions over Levy’s future be addressed, not now, not while we are in an economic black hole.

Negotiating Penny’s? Hundreds of grands ain’t Penny’s. Its not as if we were flush while building the stadium. Have you ever seen how tings run in the metal stock market? Levy doesn’t go over his “set limit at market. Do you know how hard that is? I can’t at auctions. We’ll operate slightly differently from now on. Levy will still be taking care of the thousands so the millions take care of them selves

I’ll be judging levy after 5 years at the new place. I certainly don’t want him gone right now. I’m looking forward to seeing how he operates with a few quid. No one knows how he’ll operate. All this crap about old lane levy means nothing now.

From levy didn’t back arry properly people should’ve known from then levy wasn’t backing anyone till the stadium was built. I tell you what levy didn’t think arry would do so well. Anyway the stadium wheels were already in motion. People expecting levy to back poch obviously didnt know levy.

There was Gazza Klinsmann Ginola Lineker Berbatov Modric Carrick Van der vaart Defoe etc and a lot I can’t finish here to write they never been the wonderful stadium and they left all legacy and won trophies what Kane and Ndom by being the stadium achieved so your argument is paying £200k I say wasted money .

Sorry im not sure on the perspective on the article. The club had been in a position that it could operate without match day incomes only a few years ago. In essence even but pure bad luck that means levys decisions have put the club at more risk no matter how great the stadium and training facilities have become. This has been made worse by lack of naming rights to squad degradation. Its more and more feels like Tottenham are a levy play thing. Levy can be Chairman but he needs to delegate alot more out not make it not just about him

Enic haven’t taken a penny out of Tottenham. They make their money when they sell.

If it wasn’t for the wonderful stadium Kane son and ndom wouldn’t be at Tottenham. No one was getting £200k a week at the old place. We did/do need it.

We didn’t need it. Look at Liverpool, Utd, etc.

Watch any home improvement show. Majority are done way over budget. A stadium is just on a massive scale. What is the budget at the end of the day. Its not funds that are earmarked for player transfers. Stadium build and other improvements have been built from borrowed funds.

Everyone goes over budget on stadium builds to the tune of hundreds of millions. The estimates for building stadiums are not set in stone. Building any large building in a major city is a challenge.

No-one can ‘force’ Levy out, except for Joe Lewis, which is highly unlikely. Hence the ‘status quo’ will remain unchanged. Which is to say, the bare minimum investment in the end product on the pitch, leaving insufficient squad depth and quality to viably challenge for the top 4 and saddled with a malcontent as a manager, living off past glories and at this point more like to breed mutiny and resentment amongst the playing squad than cohesion, harmony and results.

Doesn’t matter who the scouts are if the powers that be won’t listen to you and go for cheaper options.

Levy mismanaged an unnecessary stadium build going over budget to the tune of hundreds of millions. How are we not questioning his competence even there, let alone the woeful failure of the football side.

Realistically, Spurs are about 6th in the hierachy of english teams in terms of finances. The team currently lie 7th and are not far off the 4 above. There is a cup final to look forward to.
Best stadium/ shopping centre in the world and world class training facilities.
Spurs competed with the top teams for a couple of seasons, even this season until Christmas.
Levy is doing a fair bit right. He has his faults, like not investing in the team for two windows and has bottled it on signing some players because of the odd million pound herecor there, but we are closing the gap gradually and improving. With the right recruitment in summer the team could challenge again next season.

Amen. Time for Joe to open the wallet as there are likely to be bargains to be had. It’s what the successful banks do in a downtown, recruit top people.

No club with a billionaire at the helm is having problems cos of lockdown, that’s reserved for the Rochdales, Aldershots and Crewes etc of this world. THFC is in bother cos an idiot built a completely unnecessary NFL/ entertainment retail complex when the high St is actively being destroyed and saddled the club with record table topping debt.

He’s not for me thanks Bruce love. Daniel you’ve had a good old whack at it over the last 20 years and have delivered a single pot, a white elephant vastly over budget and over schedule and failed to capitalise on 3 clear opportunities to ‘Be Brave’.

Be a dear and sell up now, time for someone else

We are stuck with Levy but money is not the be all and end all. I’d like to see a root and branch of the recruitment structure and a crack team of scouts with extensive knowledge of the European leagues put in place. Leicester seem to be the gold standard when it comes to identifying good young players who offer value for money and don’t seem to need 12 months to get on message. Jose has also proved you don’ tneed to splash out millions on proven quality with the signing of PEH. I would also like to see them be allowed get on with the job and not have to put up with Daniels micro-managing.

I have no issue with levy staying but taking more of a backseat with transfers, even when we have the money transfers drag out because he is negotiating penny’s in a world where most deal in nothing lower than thousands

Totally agree. We need him at the moment & the only issue we might have is if Joe pops his clogs.

Levy owns a chunk of ENIC & hard to see him losing a vote of no confidence. The only way Levy goes is if ENIC sell, and given the current climate I don’t see that many buyers willing to pay what they would want.
