Tottenham Hotspur was spiraling out of control to start the 2021-22 Premier League season. Former manager Nuno Espírito Santo would pay the price as the north London club sacked the Portuguese tactician in November.
After experimenting with a manager like Nuno, who has Premier League experience but with a mid-table club, Spurs went out and hired a proven winner in Antonio Conte.
The Italian tactician has won Serie A and the Premier League, and BT Sport pundit Peter Crouch sees the improvements under Conte despite not making any additions.
“Defensively, it has been a lot better,” Crouch explained on BT Sport (via Football.London). “Results are the most important thing, and he has not lost in the Premier League this season, but there have been times where it has been disappointing in the Europa Conference League, but it has been much better.”
“I think there is a clear plan, under Nuno you couldn’t see what he was trying to achieve, but since Conte’s come in, you can see with the running stats, you can see there is a clear plan and a clear shape, and there seems to be a direction which is all Spurs fans wanted.”
Conte has been able to turn the season around for Tottenham, who was floundering in the middle of the table, to now a point out of a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
Spurs sit in fifth place as they leaped over their north London rival in Arsenal and hope to overtake West Ham United, which occupies the fourth spot in the Premier League table.
Makes more sense
Bloody spell-check. I believe before he went into football he was an electrician.
