Blow for Spurs as long-term transfer target agrees deal with Premier League rivals

Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, who was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham, has verbally agreed a deal with Newcastle.

That is according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna who reports that Newcastle United are set to secure the signing of English centre-back Lloyd Kelly as a free agent, with a verbal agreement reached between the parties.

This might come as a blow to Spurs given their long standing interest in him.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Kelly dates back to last summer when they reportedly made a £20 million bid for the talented centre-back, an offer that was rebuffed by Bournemouth.

Given his extensive Premier League experience, Tottenham would surely feel disappointed to lose out on signing him for free.

Moreover, his versatility to also play as a left-back could have been highly beneficial for Spurs, especially considering their lack of a suitable backup for Destiny Udogie in that position.

Despite the setback, Spurs are expected to remain active in the transfer market as they look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season.
