BBC Pundit hails Tottenham player’s ‘very impressive’ display vs Man City

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game for the London club.

However the England international was not the only top performer for Tottenham on the evening. Tottenham defender Emerson Royal put on an outstanding defensive display for his side and helped keep the likes of Jack Grealish in check.

Grealish had an outstanding game for Manchester City and he was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch for the away side.

Royal did exceptionally well to contain the Manchester City attack and he left the BBC pundit Garth Crooks surprised with his display.

The BBC pundit explained that although the 24-year-old is not his favourite player, he did produce an impressive display against Manchester City.

“Not my favourite player, but I must say the way in which Royal dealt with Jack Grealish, Manchester City’s best player against Spurs, was very impressive,” he told BBC Sport.

“I have no idea what is going on at Manchester City, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the premature departure of Joao Cancelo, to Bayern Munich on loan, has not gone down well with some of the players.”

It remains to be seen whether the Brazilian can hold down a regular starting spot under Antonio Conte in the coming months.

Tottenham signed Pedro Porro from Sporting CP on deadline day and the 23-year-old Spaniard is expected to be the preferred right back for Tottenham going forward.

Royal has been criticised for his inconsistent performances all season and he will be desperate to showcase his qualities now that the opportunities might be hard to come by.

The win over City could not have come at a better time for Spurs and they will be hoping to build on it and close in on Champions League qualification now.
