BBC man says Tottenham are looking at a player who knows the club very well

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham are reportedly considering a move to bring back Kyle Walker-Peters, with former Spurs defender and BBC pundit Alan Hutton offering his insights on the potential transfer.

Hutton sees Walker-Peters as an excellent addition to Tottenham’s defensive lineup, particularly if Djed Spence leaves the club before the transfer window closes.

The former Scottish footballer acknowledges that Pedro Porro is currently the first-choice right-back under manager Ange Postecoglou but views Walker-Peters as a valuable backup option.

Hutton, who played as a right-back himself, expressed admiration for Spence’s attacking qualities but noted that his transfer from Nottingham Forest didn’t yield the expected results.

With Emerson Royal’s recent move to AC Milan, Hutton believes Spurs may be seeking more stability in their defensive ranks.

Speaking to Tottenham News, the pundit said:

“Porro is your number one fullback.

“I’ve always liked Djed Spence. I don’t know why it didn’t work out when he made his move from Nottingham Forest, I thought he was really attacking.

“I know the fullbacks have to do different jobs under Ange Postecoglou, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

“I had never seen Emerson Royal as a regular starter. I thought going forward he was ok but defensively I wasn’t convinced by him.

“They might look to bring somebody in, I know there’s been rumours about Kyle Walker-Peters coming back. He knows the club, knows the team and it could be something that possibly happen.

“They’re probably looking, unless Spence is to leave, then they’ll need to bring somebody in.”

Walker-Peters, who transferred to Southampton from Spurs in 2020, is a player well-acquainted with the club’s culture and could provide reliable depth at right-back, especially if Spence exits.

The 27-year-old is currently in the final year of his contract with Southampton, which is set to expire next June.

Without a contract extension in sight, Walker-Peters’ departure from the Saints seems increasingly likely.

Last season, Walker-Peters played a crucial role in Southampton’s promotion to the Premier League, starting 46 games and contributing three goals and three assists.

His strong performances have caught Tottenham’s attention, making a return to North London a possibility if the circumstances align.

As Spurs continues to assess its defensive options, Walker-Peters remains a key target who could strengthen the squad for the upcoming season’s challenges.
