Matt Doherty’s performance against LASK was arguably no worse than anyone else’s, but one can’t help but feel that there has been trouble brewing within the fanbase for a while, given that Doherty isn’t exactly a player that makes head turning actions. Our fanbase loves a head turning action, even if one might be entirely unnecessary.
Matt’s passing accuracy was poor, 66% isn’t good enough, especially for a right back whose mean average accuracy is currently 80.4%.
Like I suggested, nothing was great. Long passes? Only 1 ended up going to another Spurs player.
The consequences of all this lousy play were 22 occasions when Matt lost the ball, 11 times in his own half. Not a great return, even on a £14.7million investment.
Fan reaction was predictably mixed. Personally I feel that he needs time to adapt, opposed to some abuse that I’ve seen online aimed at the Irishman.
