Matt Doherty’s performance against LASK was arguably no worse than anyone else’s, but one can’t help but feel that there has been trouble brewing within the fanbase for a while, given that Doherty isn’t exactly a player that makes head turning actions. Our fanbase loves a head turning action, even if one might be entirely unnecessary.
Matt’s passing accuracy was poor, 66% isn’t good enough, especially for a right back whose mean average accuracy is currently 80.4%.
Like I suggested, nothing was great. Long passes? Only 1 ended up going to another Spurs player.
The consequences of all this lousy play were 22 occasions when Matt lost the ball, 11 times in his own half. Not a great return, even on a £14.7million investment.
Fan reaction was predictably mixed. Personally I feel that he needs time to adapt, opposed to some abuse that I’ve seen online aimed at the Irishman.
I knew he wasn’t better than serge. I never really rated him to be honest but can understand why he was brought in
Yep it wasnt picked up or mentioned that cross but credit where credit is due.
Bentley 2.0
He’s currently looking like the right sided version of Ben Davies.
Inoffensive yet unspectacular.
Backwards & sideways to you own teammates now sounds so much better than giving up possession 18 times to your opponent.
To be honest, Doherty has been disappointing so far. I thought he was a good signing at the time and in a way he has been, but not by reason of his own performance! Rather, he appears to have lit a rocket up Aurier’s backside, who has suddenly turned into a world beater!
Nevertheless, we should give him more time. He did deliver that one sublime cross for Kane, which gave us all three points against West Brom and appeared to be playing better, until struck down with COVID 19. He is also being played as a FB, rather than as a wing back, where he excelled for Wolves.
He was nearly as bad as winks who was constantly passing it backwards or sideways😂🤣😂
I try to give players a chance, unless it’s obvious they are not good enough like KWP.
LoCelso also lost the ball 18 times for an even bigger investment. We can understand now why Jose can’t trust him to start PL games.
So has Harry and Sonny!
I’d argue that we’d of done better, and saved money, by just bringing back KWP from the Saints. He’s younger so has a much longer future, and would have thrived I think in the cups or as back up for league games. Strange decision as Doherty is even just as likely to give away pens and free kicks as Serge.
Considering how good he was for Wolves, perhaps Mourinho’s system doesn’t suit him, although he was his choice.
For whatever reason he seems lacking in confidence. For Wolves he was very positive, but for us he seems so tentative.I’d give him time, but he has to improve before too long.
He has played a lot of football in the last year or so, I think he could well need a rest, he’s certainly not reaching the level we expected or should I say Mourinho expected. I want every player to reach their best levels, some are not there yet, but it’s a long season and I prefer to think positive about him and the rest of the squad.
Id give the lad time but i thought as a proven pl player he would have shown better form than he has so far.
makes Aurier look like Cafu 🙂
I hope he comes good ,,he has at least stuck a poker up auriers a r s e.
