Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor savages Spurs: “Not spent wisely like Man Utd and Liverpool have”

By The Boy -

Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor has given Tottenham both barrels on talkSPORT this week, in a savaging attack upon what Daniel Levy’s been striving to achieve.

In fairness to Gabby, this is a Gatling gun approach, and as a result, as well hitting some targets, a good number of bullets also wildly missed. Tanguy Ndombele can’t be casually written off as not being good enough. Clearly there are massive issues, and until he can get with the programme, it will be frustrating, but the 23-year-old’s footballing ability isn’t in doubt.

As far as Giovani Lo Celso being merely ‘decent’, but not capable of kicking Spurs onward and upward, this is frankly hilarious.

Serge Aurier is probably due all the heat he incurs, but Eric Dier actually had decent game against The Blades, despite the scoreline. Sanchez, less so.

What really lets Gabby down here though is painting Danny Rose as a hero. Forget Rose’s questionable footballing abilities of the last few seasons, the boy clearly spent more time ‘opening his heart’ to The Sun than was healthy.

The problem anyone faces trying to defend this attack on Spurs, is that table doesn’t lie. Manchester United are currently 10 points in front of us in the league and trying to tease themselves some European football for next season. Oh, and Liverpool are European and English champions.

He put in some top performances in the Champions League at Lyon. I think the logic was, he’s capable of this every few games at 22. With the right coach he’ll be doing even better than that every game by the time he’s 25…

I’m going Benny🌚 yep, shame about rosey not finishing up his contract here. He’s still miles better than Davies, he didn’t feel wanted so he left. Fair play to him. Our legends teams will be covered on the left side in the future🌚

❤ VDV. Shame he wasn’t with us earlier and for longer.. And I would go with Rose mate all day. Benny was so talented but sometimes his head wasnt there. Like he couldnt be bothered. He was a better footballer than danny I would say. But danny always gave it his all.. I wish he never went to the toon mate, hes better than davies.

Did he play that well at lyon though? I’ve only seen 8 minutes of you tube clips… According to Emmanuel Petit he recieved the SAME criticism at Lyon. He used to watch him and like him.. But he was not regularly a top player. Sometimes he would play a beautiful game, then three days later be average.. Thing is here Levy did pay big bucks for his transfer, and his wage. It’s just the wrong player.

Exactly, if the squad hadn’t been neglected so badly for two years then there would be less pressure on the Tanguy situation.

People are looking for scapegoats within the squad but the main problem is the lack of a coherent transfer strategy and Levy’s obsession with only buying from either Ajax, PSG or Lyon…

The price tag is what clubs are prepared to deal at. It’s has no bearing on what the player needs or doesn’t need to do to.

There have been loads of cases where younger players from abroad have needed two whole seasons to find their feet. Levy won’t care about that, and what happens in the meantime as long as he’s looking like a £120m player by 2024 it’s job done. Which is why it’s unlikely that Tanguy will be shipped out soon.

Lamela wasn’t given up on and he cost a lot of money too. Levy won’t make his profit on him or Erickson but those ‘financial’ failures clearly haven’t put him off. Levy is obviously looking for another Carrick, Modric or Bale but since Bale it’s not looked quite so easy has it?

Perhaps Baldini back then and whoever is scouting now just aren’t as good as those that went before them. Who knows, Mitchell didn’t last five mins, perhaps Levy only likes scouts that can recommend the profit margin players rather than the right ones? He sacks everyone who doesn’t do as they’re told, or if their expertise doesn’t fit in with his objectives.

Jose next…

He played well enough at Lyon to earn a price tag like the one he had when we bought him. I agree, his head isn’t where it should be and you have to question our scouting if they couldn’t evaluate his attitude before playing so much.

However, with younger players a coach’s role has to be dealing with those issues. Several ex pros have said that Jose’s approach of hanging players out just doesn’t work at the top level anymore.

I’m not saying he should be in the side if he isn’t trying hard enough or whatever. I just feel that a situation like this requires patience and the right kind of coach. If we are mainly signing 22 year olds rather than fully formed pros at 25-26 etc then these problems will inevitably arise.

This requires a coach that is a developer of young players and whichever way you look at it, Jose might be a lot of things but he isn’t that.

Levy isn’t going to start paying the going rate for quality players at their peak which makes the appointment of Jose even more bizarre…

ENIC OUT.

Maureen made 11 signings in his two years at united including pogba and lukaku when he couldn’t get kane.. He wanted toby, maguire, perisic but the board never backed him.. Bought him 52million Fred who he didn’t want amongst others. Not just Maureen claims but Woodward has admitted blocking and overuling transfers after consulting ‘experts’….. I’m sorry mate we can’t leave links on here anymore, you asked before, but a google search and you can read reports.. Search Jose woodward transfers……… Alot of people accuse maureen of blowing that 400 mil but this isnt the case.

Redknapp also man his team would have rivalled pochs, when we had modders and bale we just needed one or two more quality players to kick on.

His ability is not in question… It’s his mindset. His mental attributes. Watch wolves and Burnley again.. Thats not accepted in english amateur club level.. Its no suprise he’s on the bench. Untrustworthy… Top players and reliable players are consistent.. Its no good being world class one match, and then go missing the next 4 or 5 matches because he cant be bothered to run, or because hes injured all the time, or he’s thinking about his mrs or his next chocolate cream donut…… For a club record signing one would expect a complete player. A finished fine polished product…. Like Bruno….. Tanguy has not been good enough. Embarrassing against wolves and Burnley.

Not when your paying £65 million.

It’s probably not the case but our signings always seem to take longer to adjust to life in the PL than other clubs signings.

People are too quick to judge players, you need time, especially in a new country and a new League.

As much as Tanguy has failed to settle so far, these people savaging him and calling him ‘ not good enough’ just haven’t seen him play enough to judge his ability. What the f**ck does Gabby flippin’ Whatshisface know or care about Spurs in reality?

We need a manager that can man manage in a modern way a player who’s only 22, a record signing and has never played or lived outside his hometown in France.
Simple as that.

One interested observer of the Hojbjerg transfer will be Harry Kane. It seems the player wants to come to Spurs, he fits the bill for the defensive midfielder we are crying out for. He’s reasonably priced for an International player and is highly rated by all the football people who have dealt with him. He has Premier League experience won’t need a year to find his feet, can speak English, knows the culture. He’s still relatively young and has plenty of room to get better. He is perfect for us.
If Daniel Levy can’t get this deal over the line, well then I think you’re sending Harry Kane a message, very loud and very very clear.

Indeed. Mourinho burned through almost £400m at Man U. No manager has been allowed to spend more in the history of football. Yet when he left they were closer in points to the bottom 3 than to Klopp and Guardiola.

Levy liked that.

To think, a striker is the least of our problems at the moment and yet we still only have one!!

Fernades was the player we should’ve got (usual 10m low balling from Levy) but Le Celso was I good purchase, don’t think the team is currently set up to best suit him. If N’Dombele doesn’t work out and we cant get the money back that really is a big blow…what a mess, sadly all too predictable….ohh to go back in time and re-read the “we don’t need any new players”, “go Levy for not spending”…

Man U have spent wisely have they? They were throwing good money after bad until Ole came in. Ferandes is their best signing in years. They look to be heading in the right direction but the jury is still out. The day I start taking seriously what Agbonlahor or Cascarino have to say about Spurs is the day I start taking Ali seriously as a gangster.

It all comes down to recruiting the right players, manager and back room staff ((scouting network)

Then once you’ve done that you continue to invest in the above.

We had the foundations in 2014 and didn’t build on them.

Why ? ENIC that’s why.

ENIC OUT !
