‘As usual’: Former Gunner makes bitter claim about Postecoglou’s Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

The North London giants are currently on top of the Premier League table and they will be hoping to push for the league title this season. However, former Arsenal man Bacary Sagna believes that Tottenham simply do not possess the talent necessary for a title challenge.

Sagna believes that Manchester City and Arsenal will compete for the Premier League title this season and Tottenham are likely to collapse as usual. Tottenham have often been criticised for falling short in key moments and the former Arsenal defender expects them to come up short once again.

Sagna’s prediction will certainly come across as bitter, and it is hardly surprising coming from a former Arsenal player.

The former Arsenal defender claims that Son Heung-min is the only top-level player at the club and the others are not at the required level for a title challenge. However, he expects Tottenham to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

He said (h/t GOAL): “The title race will be between Arsenal and Manchester City, Spurs will collapse, as usual. And that’s not just me speaking as an Arsenal fan. I don’t see them being consistent enough all season.

“Apart from Heung-Min Son, I don’t see anyone in that team that can lead the team or play a vital role in Spurs’ title race. I have respect for the players, and they play good football under a good coach, but the season is very long, and I don’t see them competing on a long-term basis. They started well, and they can qualify for the Champions League, but I don’t see them competing for the title.”

The London giants will certainly be hoping to prove the 40-year-old wrong in the coming months, and it remains to be seen whether they can build on their impressive start to the season. There is no doubt that they have a talented squad at their disposal, and there is no reason why they cannot push for the title, especially without the rigours of European football.
