Antonio Conte warned over transfer digs at the Tottenham board

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has now been warned regarding his thinly veiled digs at the club’s board.

Antonio Conte has recently taken indirect digs at the club for the lack of investment in recent months and Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has now revealed in a podcast that Conte needs to stop taking a swipe at the board and give out the impression that he is not being backed in the transfer market.

Conte has been very vocal about Tottenham’s shortcomings as a team and he has maintained that they will need major investment in order to compete with teams like Manchester City. There is no doubt that Tottenham have backed him significantly in the recent transfer windows but they will need to spend further in order for Tottenham to put together a formidable squad that is capable of challenging on all fronts.

Dharmesh Sheth believes that Conte’s criticism could come back to haunt him and his comments could upset the club hierarchy.

“I think it was the Crystal Palace game, when he was mentioning that Matar Sarr or Oliver Skipp were his only two options, we were thinking: ‘Oh, is that another thinly veiled message to the board to say, I need more players?’

“Is everything he’s saying another thinly veiled message to the board to say, I need more players?

“I mean, it can’t continue like that because the board will not be pleased if Antonio Conte’s continually making these kinds of comments that indicate that he’s not being backed.”

Meanwhile, the Italian manager will be out of contract at the end of the season and Tottenham have not managed to agree on an extension with him yet. It will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte is willing to commit his long-term future to the club in the upcoming months.

There is no doubt that the Italian is a world-class manager and Tottenham must look to hold onto him if they want to challenge for the major trophies in the coming seasons. The Italian manager has been linked with a move back to Serie A but it would be quite surprising if Conte decided to abandon the Tottenham project midway. He is an ambitious manager who will hope to win trophies with Tottenham before leaving the club.
