According to Football London, Antonio Conte requested a ‘late’ warm-weather training trip for his Tottenham squad during the World Cup break, but the Spurs board refused.
Spurs defeated Leeds in a hard-fought match on Saturday. They trailed three times times in the game and equalised all three times before scoring a late winner to finish on a high ahead of the mid-season World Cup break.
Spurs will go into the break in the top four, and having qualified for the Champions League knockout rounds. And most of the Tottenham players will be in Qatar playing for their country. However, there are some who won’t be going to the World Cup including the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Clement Lenglet, Lucas Moura etc.
Many Premier League clubs are travelling to the Middle East for warm-weather training to ensure that their World Cup players return in similar condition. Conte’s request for a similar trip, however, came too late and the board was unable to locate a location with facilities comparable to Hotspur Way.
Even though the board was not able to grant Conte his request, it should not affect Tottenham a lot since most of their players will already be in Qatar undergoing the warm-weather training. And for those left behind, they will continue to train at the state of the art Tottenham Hostpur stadium.
The players will be given a short break. Antonio Conte himself will be travelling to his home country to spend time with his family having missed his daughter’s birthday recently.
Spurs return from the World Cup break on Boxing Day, when they travel to Brentford, after which they they host Aston Villa.
