Another player after Brennan Johnson wants to join Tottenham on deadline day

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Lille striker Jonathan David is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jonathan David has been one of the players linked with a move to Spurs as a potential Harry Kane replacement since several weeks.

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Spurs ‘have approached Lille‘ regarding the 23-year-old Canadian international and to find out about the conditions of a deal, however no official move has been made yet.

“Spurs have already approached Lille asking about the conditions of the deal and exploring for sure the cost, but as of today no official move has been made.”

And now Jacobs in his latest podcast with Last Word on Spurs has stated that while the asking price for the striker is in the region of £55m, Spurs could be able to negotiate a deal at a reduced price due to the fact that the player himself is keen to join Spurs.

Jacobs said:

“Jonathan David remains a really interesting one. If we are talking about fees, that’s a very high fee, somewhere in the region of 60 to 65 million Euros (£50-55m) but it could come down because David is keen on the move.”

“This is an interesting one because the only name if Kane left under Paratici that Tottenham were really seriously exploring when they first got wind, probably around March or April, that the Kane situation might be changing against them.”

“The only name that they put forward to begin with was Jonathan David, but that was under Paratici and under Conte or interims, now again Postecoglou is going to have his say.

I know some other Premier League clubs have looked at Jonathan David and they are not so sure about whether or not he’ll be a fit for Premier League football.

“The stats suggest he will but the reality is can he do it at a different pace and level? That’s what I’m most intrigued to see but I certainly wouldn’t rule out David.”

With just a week left in the transfer window to close, Spurs may be short of time as Jacobs previously mentioned that it won’t be easy doing business with Lille either with so little time left in the window.

If somehow Spurs and Lille can come to an agreement over the fee before the transfer deadline, Tottenham will have signed a top-class striker to cap off what will be considered a great transfer window.

He will not come cheap and Spurs will have to pay a premium for him but David’s desire to join Tottenham could aid the negotiations.
