Ange Postecoglou’s brilliant response to England job speculation

Recent rumours suggesting Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou as a potential candidate for the England national team job have garnered considerable attention.

The FA has reportedly placed Postecoglou on its list of candidates for the role, especially after Gareth Southgate’s resignation following England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Postecoglou’s name is being mentioned alongside other high-profile contenders such as Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, and Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite this speculation, the Australian head coach has firmly reiterated his commitment to Tottenham. He stressed that his primary focus remains on his current position at Spurs, where he is dedicated to achieving success.

The manager’s impressive record since joining the Lilywhites has fueled speculation about his future. In his debut season, Postecoglou led Spurs to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, just two points shy of Champions League qualification. This notable campaign has added to the buzz surrounding his potential future roles.

When questioned about the possibility of taking on the England job, Postecoglou took a pragmatic view, acknowledging that his future could take various paths, including potentially returning to Japan or exploring other opportunities.

However, his current priority is firmly set on his role at Tottenham.

He acknowledged the interest from other suitors but emphasized that his primary goal is to continue pushing Spurs forward.

Postecoglou said following the club’s 5-1 friendly win against Hearts, as quoted by Football London:

“Mate I was having a nap this afternoon so I’ve got no idea. I’m Tottenham manager and I’m determined to bring success to this club, as I have at every other club I’ve been at. That’s where my focus is totally.

“I reckon by the end of it there will be 100 of them. I’m in the top 100, thank you. That’s decent.

“Five years ago I was in Japan and now I’m in the Premier League. Who knows where I will be in five years. I could be back in Japan. I could be on the beach somewhere, hopefully. It’s not something that enters my headspace. I’m Tottenham manager and I’m determined to bring success to this club. Nothing else is on my radar except for that.”

As the Lilywhites gear up for the upcoming season, Postecoglou’s focus on his current role highlights his dedication to the club’s success.
