Ange Postecoglou has provided an update on the fitness of Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven.

The Netherlands international came off in tears after just 14 minutes of Spurs’ 2-1 win over Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

Van de Ven appeared to be clutching his hamstring, which sparked worry among Spurs supporters given his history with that particular type of injury.

However, Van de Ven has since provided some optimism with an Instagram post stating he will be ‘back soon’.

Postecoglou has now confirmed Van de Ven’s hamstring injury isn’t as serious as previous ones he’s suffered.

Unfortunately for Spurs, it looks like he’ll still be out until after the international break, meaning he’ll miss key fixtures against Aston Villa, Galatasaray and Ipswich Town.

“Micky, he has sort of strained his hamstring,” Postecoglou told reporters at a press conference on Friday (via Football.London). “It’s not too serious, but probably after the international break for him.”

On Van de Ven’s tearful departure from the pitch, Postecoglou added: “He was really looking forward to the game, so he was emotional. At least it’s not a bad one like last time that kept him out for quite a while.”

Timo Werner — who scored the opening goal against Pep Guardiola’s side — and Cristian Romero were also forced off in the victory over the Premier League champions.

However, Postecoglou is hopeful both can feature against Villa this weekend, while that match could also mark the return of talismanic forward Son Heung-min.

“Romero, Werner, at the moment, still a chance for the weekend,” Postecoglou said, adding: “Sonny has trained today, so if he gets through training tomorrow he should be okay.”
