Ange Postecoglou shortlisted for the England job

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has garnered significant attention due to his outstanding performance in his debut season in the English top flight.

The FA has shortlisted Postecoglou as a potential successor to Gareth Southgate for the England managerial position.

According to reports from Telegraph Football, the Australian head coach is among the leading candidates considered for the role following Southgate’s resignation.

John McDermott, the FA’s technical director, has closely followed Postecoglou’s career and holds him in high regard.

Southgate, who guided England to the Euro 2024 final, announced his resignation this week after the team’s narrow 2-1 loss to Spain.

His departure has created a significant vacancy, with Postecoglou’s name emerging prominently alongside other potential candidates such as Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, and Mauricio Pochettino.

Since taking the helm at Tottenham, Postecoglou has made a remarkable impact, leading the team to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League and narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification by just two points.

His impressive debut campaign also earned him three consecutive Manager of the Month awards in August, September, and October, drawing widespread attention across the league.

Despite previous rumours linking him with a potential move to Manchester City amid speculation about Pep Guardiola’s future, Postecoglou has remained dedicated to his responsibilities at Tottenham.

His managerial acumen and recent successes have positioned him as a compelling candidate for the England job.

As the FA considers its options for the next England manager, Postecoglou’s track record at Tottenham and his strategic approach could make him a strong contender for one of football’s most prestigious roles.
