Ange Postecoglou labels Tottenham star as a ‘special footballer’ after Everton win

By Saikat -

Ange Postecoglou has hailed Tottenham star Micky van de Ven following their win over Everton.

The North London club secured their first league win of the season yesterday as they smashed Everton 4-0 on their home turf. After struggling to convert their chances against Leicester, Ange Postecoglou’s team managed to get it right against the Toffees and secured a well-deserved win.

Tottenham delivered a flawless performance in their second league game of the season. They dominated the ball, scored goals for fun and had a rock-solid defence that managed to keep a clean sheet. Spurs’ defence never really gave the opposition too many chances to score. While the visitors did take ten shots on goal, only one was on target.

Following their impressive performance against Everton, Ange Postecoglou was full of praises for Micky van de Ven during his press conference.

The Australian manager said via Alasdair Gold: “He’s outstanding. He’s a pretty special footballer. Last year when we had that back four out there we were pretty compelling, but we can’t keep putting him out there. Micky, Romero and Destiny, they’re not at their peak yet and they were blowing a bit by the 65-minute mark.”

The Dutch international was one of the first signings of the Australian manager after taking charge at the North London club. He became an integral part of their first team setup soon after arriving and has only gone from strength to strength since. A hamstring injury kept him out of action for a significant amount of time last season and Postecoglou will be hoping the 23-year-old manages to stay fit for their entire season this time out.

The former Celtic boss feels Van de Ven is a special player who could go on to do wonders for them. He highlighted the fact that when all four of his key defenders were fit last season, they looked a lot more compelling. But, went on to suggest that Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie are not yet a hundred per cent so he will look to rotate them.
