Angeball has given Postecoglou a welcome break from the uncertainty that was hovering above his head in N17, over the last dozen or so games, which saw Spurs continue upon the same run of form which had become notable towards the end of last season and which then continued to gently undermine the start to the Australian’s current season. The loss away at Brighton and Hove Albion was an all too desperate reminder that our squad needs reinforcements.

In recent weeks, Spurs have scored lots of goals, but the question remains, as to if their opponents have been entirely up to scratch. A significant factor in concerns has been the team’s ability to score goals. Dominic Solanke has been an upgrade on Richarlison, but that’s thin praise, especially given how desperately poor Timo Werner has turned out to be.

Spurs are rumoured to have a buy option on Barcelona star Vitor Roque, so that’s one name to ponder. Tottenham tried to sign the player before he joined Barcelona, and they remain keen on securing his signature. However, a move this summer is likely to be a temporary one and Barcelona are looking to loan him out so that he can get ample game time next season. Spurs need more quality and depth in the wide areas, and the Brazilian winger could prove to be a quality acquisition. He has two goals in the Spanish league, and Roque is might well prove to be a useful squad player in N17.

One worry is that Daniel Levy is still making his presence known, in respect of transfer activity. The summer window looked all about trimming the wage bill. The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Emerson Royal, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso all exited THFC. Eberechi Eze was a player whose possible move to Spurs was scuppered by price restrictions. Tottenham failed to negotiate a fee below his £68m release clause. Eze’s wages are though to be in the region of £100,000, whereas Werner is on £165,000 a week, but is a staggering less interesting footballer.

Spurs Legend, Paul Gascoigne, waded into our predicament recently, wondering if Bog Ange was getting shown the right levels of respect.

“The managers I played for, I respected them so much that I wanted to play so well for them. And I just feel like some of the players are letting him down, thinking, ‘he’s from Australia, he doesn’t really know much about English football’, and just going out there to play the game and collect their wages.”

What is for certain, is that Spurs need to sharpen up their on the grass operations!
