“And let’s not rule out Spurs” Tottenham named as one of the teams that may still want Brighton man

Tariq Lamptey has just put an end to rumours about his future by signing a new contract with Brighton, however, Noel Whelan thinks that a summer move could still happen, and names Tottenham as one team that might move for him.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the best right-backs in the country since he moved from Chelsea to the Seagulls.

He keeps getting better, and in this campaign, he has proven to be a hit for Graham Potter’s side.

His fine form has attracted the attention of top European and Premier League sides, including Arsenal and Tottenham.

But he has just signed a contract extension, putting an end to the rumours that he could leave, at least for now.

However, Whelan says that regardless of the new deal, there is the possibility that he could leave the Amex at the end of this season.

He says that Lamptey is an exciting talent that is destined to play for a top-six team.

Whelan told Football Insider: “I think he is destined for a top-six club.

“I have loved Lamptey since he was come onto the scene. He is very exciting, loads of energy, gets forward, gets in good areas, create chances, box-to-box and has a goal in him. He is such an exciting you player.

“When you look at your Man City and Evertons would have right-backs coming to the back end of their careers, Lamptey would give them another option – and let’s not rule out Spurs.

“It is bizarre why Chelsea let him go. He is a very exciting player and even in the small window that we have seen of him, you can tell a lot of big clubs will be looking at him. They will want him because he brings so much.

“He gets into better positions than Wan Bissaka, and he gives you more attacking presence.”
