Analysis: Pierre Hojbjerg slotted in another rock-solid 100 mins+ for Tottenham

Pierre Hojbjerg has of late been subject to what one might refer to as a modest campaign of disrespect. I’m never surprised by the whims and fancies of football fans. Some Tottenham fans still to this day don’t believe that Michael Carrick was a big loss. Even though Sir Alex Ferguson built a dynasty of achievement, largely around him.

I thought it would be useful to keep an eye on this player that some perhaps unworldly fans have become fatigued by.

Attacking passes final third vs Watford

Nobody made as many attacking passes for either side during yesterday’s game. Indeed, there was just one unsuccessful pass in this discipline. In contrast, but not to attack the boy, Oliver Skipp made 10 attacking third passes.

This one might suggest that which we already knew; that Spurs’ are lacking in a truly creative midfielder. Therefore, taking out that dissatisfaction on other players, is at best, a waste of time.

Total successful actions vs Watford

The Dane was very reliable. His total successful actions vs Watford clocked 81%, which is not unusual, for this endlessly hard-working and committed soul.

Hojbjerg heat-map vs Watford

Another consideration in respect of the 26-year-old is that he played a mix of left Centre Midfielder, and left Defensive Midfielder. This provides even further distance between Pierre and his detractors.

Thank you! The ongoing campaign of disrespect (nicely put) against PEH is plain ridiculous.

He isn’t a great player, not by a long stretch. He is solid and dependable, a 6 in everything.

There is a place for him, but it isn’t against Watford.

Straightforward article detailing exactly why PEH is a great player, why we need him, how he’s performing exactly how he always has and how we need him to and STILL you get people like Park Lane fighting to put him down. PEH has already scored as many goals as he did last season when he was the golden “Viking” that everyone loved. Apparently it’s just his turn to be the scapegoat for temperamental supporters.

Please don’t mention PEH with Carrick either. Like comparing a Ford Focus to a Roller

Let’s have it straight…

He is a grafter for sure, and every side needs one. But we have two, and the other is a better all-round player.

Absolutely no need for PEH in games like Watford. Camped in their half waiting for someone to unlock them, he aint your man

Hojberg was a good signing. He had a market value of 18 million when we bought him for 15 mil.. His stock has rose to 36 million.. He is the definition of a no nonsense footballer, a great tackler and has the right mentality… He’s not as good as the best defensive midfielders in the league though. Players worth twice the money do offer a lot more, Kante, Fabinho and Declan Rice are world class.

Rarely do I agree with Harry, let alone every post on an article, but am delighted with all these sentiments as I was only saying to my Spurs-supporting son today how decent PEH played and how crazy it is to hear so many complaints about him recently. We should be grateful he joined us (though wish we could have paid the full whack and kept KWP too!).

Agree . Below James Milner is mentioned he is now 36 years of age . Could I see PEH slotting in there at LFC , I could. Only when and if PEH leaves will some of the shortsighted Spurs fans realise what we have lost.
Harry mentioned Carrick ..until Dembele came along we were lost in midfield when Carrick left..desperately need more creativity and although Winks has shown in a couple of games I think it will take more ability than he possesses to fulfill that task.

Winks is a squad player but his failings are the same as 5 years ago. The right recruitment he’s further down the pecking order.
But the Hojbjerg complaint has me confused as I’m not sure where it comes from?

Quite agree. Some of Spurs fans are never happy except complaining. Now Winksy seems to be rehabilitated they move onto Pierre or Emerson or both.
Pierre is a worker Conte trusts him. End of story. Emerson is in a new league and system and still learning the language. He will get better.

He should be the skipper, out in the middle where he can drive the troops on defensively and attacking-wise. One of our best purchases of late. Son is just a legend. His attitude and personality are infectious for the right reasons. Are you watching Tanguy. Maybe if you stopped playing the moody Frenchman all the time you might be able to focus on playing football which I might remind you is paying you a fortune each week. Of course, you believe you are too big a player to play for us. You see yourself as a Real Madrid or Barca player. The problem is I am not sure they do…….

He’s a warrior who never hides as well. We need more personalities like him on the pitch! Love PEH.

Pierre is the sort of player like James Milner that some fans can’t understand every team needs to function properly.

He’s not flashy or fancy but he makes it easier for the star names to shine. The continual criticism of him I used to find baffling but now I put it down to sheer ignorance.
