‘an absolute shambles’: Former Tottenham player slams 26-year-old’s display vs Leicester

By Saikat -

Jamie O’Hara has slammed Argentine World Cup winner Cristian Romero for his performance against Leicester City.

Tottenham played their opening Premier League game of the season on Monday. It was an away trip to Leicester’s King Power Stadium and things didn’t really go according to plan for them. The North London club did take the lead quite early in the game but they couldn’t capitalise on the chances they created and it was 1-0 in their favour heading into the break.

In the second half, Leicester skipper Jamie Vardy was left unmarked at the back post and he headed home the equaliser without much trouble. The manner in which the North London club conceded the equaliser didn’t go down well with their former midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

While speaking on talkSPORT (19/08/24 at 10:15 pm), the 37-year-old said: “Just watching the Leicester goal back. What’s Romero doing? The goal that they score. I mean, look, it’s a great header from Vardy. Where is Romero going? I mean, honestly, world-class defender, won the World Cup and an absolute shambles.”

Romero is considered to be one of the defensive mainstays of Tottenham. The 26-year-old has done wonders for both club and country. Despite all that he has achieved in recent years, O’Hara was quick to question the abilities of the World Cup winner.

He wasn’t really happy with the fact that the Argentine international decided to wander off and leave Vardy unmarked. His error of judgement cost the North London club big time. Once the former English international saw the ball coming his way, he headed it home and spoiled the party for Spurs who dominated the proceedings but were not good enough in the final third of the pitch.
