Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has no intention of leaving the club.
That is according to a latest report from Mundo Deportivo journalist Fernando Polo who claims that Lo Celso ‘does not want to leave’ the club in the January transfer window.
Instead, he wants to stay at Spurs and ‘improve his chances of succeeding’ at Tottenham.
The Argentinean has a contract with Tottenham until 2025 and while he has failed to make an impression at Spurs all this time, he has fared well at his loan spells away.
His performances at Villareal under Unai Emery in particular led to interest from other La Liga clubs as well with the likes of Barcelona and Real Betis strongly interested in him.
Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is a big fan of the player and sees him as an ideal midfielder for them. Real Betis too are very keen on signing him.
However, the report claims that Ange Postecoglou ‘has made it clear’ that he ‘does not want him to leave’. The report adds that the manager is ‘counting on him’.
He is out with a muscle injury at the moment but will hope to play a key role for Spurs this season once he is back.
Meanwhile another report from the same outlet claims that Tottenham have toughen their stance on the midfielder.
Journalist Ferran Martinez reports that they have ‘already been talks’ with the player and the club has told him that they are no longer willing to loan him for another season, leaving a permanent transfer the only solution.
This is going to make his move to Barcelona difficult since the financially struggling La Liga giants can not afford to sign him on a permanent deal due to the Financial Fairplay regulations.
Lo Celso’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain, and whether he can impress the club enough to revive his career or is eventually sold next year will depend on various factors, including his performance and the financial considerations of the clubs involved.
