Alli reveals who is to blame for his Tottenham exile, it is not Mourinho

Dele Alli says he is to blame for his poor form at Tottenham last season after he failed to make the starting XI under Jose Mourinho on a consistent basis.

He started just twice in the Premier League under the Portuguese manager and was never a favourite.

He was one of the first names on the team sheet under the club’s previous manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

But his poor start under Mourinho last season saw him lost his place in the Tottenham starting XI.

He saw more playing time under the interim boss, Ryan Mason and will hope to feature more under Nuno Espirito Santo.

He could blame Mourinho for losing his place in the team last season and everyone would understand.

However, the Englishman has refused to do that and says he has himself to blame for the poor campaign.

He told Goal: “The only person I blame is myself.

“I should be performing at a level where it is difficult to not put me in the team or not play me.

“I don’t blame anyone but myself.

“Working with Mourinho was a great experience and one I learned a lot from.”

Alli has been using the holidays to get fit after missing out on England’s squad for Euro 2020 and he will hope to start next season on a positive note.
