A queer game, a bit reserved in places and one probably not entirely aided by being played in a one third full moratorium.
Despite being largely unconvincing (and losing 3-1) we managed to give the impression that Southampton could get back into it.
Southampton edged the possession – another nail in that particular coffin.
One cannot help but feel that was a somewhat muted thumping?
Kane on 9 minutes
Moura rams it home.
Son scores again
Yes, but you’re forgetting that Levy doesn’t give a toss about ridicule.
The whole thing is a complete shambles. Consolidation is the aim this year and to qualify for the C.L again next season for the stadium move. With Chavs looking unconvincing and Manure looking flat as a pancake Levy just might get away with it with Poch squeezing every last drop out of what he has.
I believe we need a quality midfielder, with Wanyama and Dembele now looking read for the knacker’s yard….
This is spot on.
To be fair to Poch he said he was annoyed at the chances we gave them last night and that we didn’t keep our concentration up, despite the win.
He certainly isn’t papering over any cracks…
See – I don’t think it was “planned” purely because the cost thrown at it to support late nights. tie that with the cost of advertising the new venue, and the complete ridicule Levy has got he would have been fine to have said 2yrs at Wembley from day one. No-one would have argued or questioned it, he may have even come out of it better, with a cheaper deal from the FA for Wembley (Chelsea are talking 2yrs away from home, and always have). There also would have been far more favourable deals in terms of playing rota around the NFL (like last season) and a lot less lost face with the NFL for our new venue.
The empty terraces reflect everyone’s including poch’s feelings, we’re fast becoming a shambles sadly.
You could have a point, there’s only so long any manager can maintain forward momentum without at least attempting to keep up with the activities of those around you.
Before the Woolwich match he looked as weary as he did after it. The misleading policy ENIC have used to spend another full season at Wembley but try and make it look like an unfortunate accident hasn’t fooled me. I doubt it’s fooled Poch either.
Add not signing anyone which is unprecedented and you have to question how long Poch is prepared to bang his head against a brick wall for. Sure, he’s being paid well for the head banging routine but I believe he’s a man of principle and he’s finding the whole thing fairly exhausting….
Two things really worried me in our “thumping” saints last night…1) they were mere inches away from scoring 4 (our keeper was MoM for Christ sake) and 2) If Kane was at City he would have got a hat-trick against a that Southampton defensive setup, we just didn’t create the chances they gifted us with! I wonder how long before City or someone comes to him and says “with us, you could smash Shearer’s record in 5 seasons easy”. Lets face it, Kane has 5-8yrs left, sooner or later he will realise that as a world class talent he needs to be winning trophies and to catch Shearer, and I cant see him doing either with us.
Think the result papered further over a few of the cracks as does our league position. The width of a post and crossbar saved us from conceding another 4 goals last night.
I look at Poch on the touch line emotionless and wonder if his head and heart are elsewhere. I suspect failure to buyanyine of note in Jan to shore up our defence and attack and he’ll be off at the end of the season. He looks like he’s had enough.
Apart from the odd blip this season such as the second half against Man Utd and the Chelsea display our general style of play has been in my opinion amongst the most turgid in the EPL. Defensively we look as if we will leak a goal to any dead ball or corner. We lack any real class or creativity in DM except perhaps for Scott Parker MK11 in Winks. Dier and Sissoko are lumps that seem to appeal to Pooch. Ali floats about to little effect with little flicks here and there most of which turn over possession. Our wing backs are sh*te defensively and only marginally better going forward. Moura looks lively at times but the jury is still out on his consistency. Eriksen is our only world class midfield talent and he looks at times to have lost belief that he will ever win anything of any note with us. Kane has run himself into the ground and looks as if he will keel over most of the time. Son is our most direct attacker and he generally looks as if he cares and wants to do well for the team. We do miss the erractic energy of Lamela when he is not there but he does give away a lot of free kicks and picks up yellows consistently. We desperately miss a fit Dembele but we know that is a thing of the past. The squad is a shambles at present that every now and then when all the first eleven are fit and Pooch gets the tactics right can turn in a performance but generally that does not happen. So we are left with dull ponderous performances were even when we are winning 3-0 we look laborious and lacking intensity. Southampton had more intensity on the ball and in their passing but could not finish the opportunities they had and we just switched off in the second half and handed the possession stats to them. My impression of everything is that this is a tired and lack lustre project now where no one at the club believes that we will amount to anything successful and the players and coaching staff are just going through the motions and taking the pay checks. It is a monotone grey club with a monotone grey chairman and owner.
September against Liverpool was supposed to be the first game. This was put back because of ‘safety systems’. Right now the earliest we go in is supposedly Febuary which will be FIVE months in which to iron out ‘safety systems’?
We won’t be in there before next season, “what’s the point in rushing now?” will be the next ‘explanation’ from ENIC.
The whole second season at Wembley was always going to have been a planned and premeditated stream of lies and expectation management rather than being honest and saying it was always going to be 2 seasons at Wembley…
