He has been that way for much of his career and that has seen him sideline several players at the clubs that he has managed.
At Spurs, he has placed Dele Alli at the back of his plans after the Englishman failed to take the opportunities that were offered to him.
Toby Alderweireld has also been on the receiving end of the manager’s team decisions this season and he has some advice for the Tottenham players that have been dropped.
He claimed that the manager will keep you on his side if you work with him and are ready to put in the extra effort that he demands.
However, if you become “annoying” because you’re not playing, he will push you to one side.
‘Things are going well between Mourinho and me,’ Alderweireld told HLN.
‘Everyone has a certain idea of him, that he can be very tough. But if you work for him and go through the fire, then he is really on your side.
‘But if you’re going to be annoying because you’re not playing, he’ll push you aside.’
While not naming names, this message should resonate well with Alli.
