Alasdair Gold’s encouraging update offers hope for potential late signing

Tottenham could be in line for another financial boost due to the potential transfer of former player Marcus Edwards.

They are already due close to £5m after Sunderland sold Jack Clarke to Ipswich Town a couple of days ago.

And they could receive further financial boost with reports indicating that former player Marcus Edwards is close to a move away from Sporting.

This comes after it was reported by Alasdair Gold that Tottenham are not going to resign the attacker despite being linked with for a couple transfer windows.

“I don’t think Spurs go for Edwards at this point, despite a little bit of previous interest, but it’s a little bit of money to put towards a final week signing if a door opens for someone they’ve got on their list.”

Marcus Edwards, currently with Sporting CP, is reportedly close to leaving the Portuguese club for a fee of around €15 million.

Tottenham hold a 35% sell-on clause for Edwards, which means they could receive a significant share of the transfer fee.

Edwards, who came through Spurs’ academy, was highly valued during his time at the club but found greater success after moving abroad, particularly in the Primeira Liga.

While there was some consideration of bringing Edwards back to Spurs, the club appears more focused on reaping the financial benefits from these sell-on clauses.

This unexpected influx of funds could provide Tottenham with the resources needed for last-minute signings, helping to further strengthen their squad as the transfer window draws to a close.
