Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min recently underwent surgery for a facial injury but the 30-year-old has been included in South Korea’s World Cup squad.
Son will be a key player for his country as they look to get out of a tough group comprising of Portugal, Uruguay and Ghana.
Former Premier League star and popular pundit Alan Shearer was asked to rate South Korea’s chances of doing well in the upcoming World Cup and the former England international believes that South Korea are unlikely to go far in the tournament.
He said that although they might be able to get out of their group, they are unlikely to get to the latter stages of the tournament.
As a result of that, Shearer does not expect Son to set to the World Cup alight either.
“Yeah [i don’t expect South Korea to do brilliantly]. They’ve got a tough group. Portugal, Ghana and Uruguay. They might get out of it, but I don’t expect them to go much further than that. That is why I’ve got him ninth (out of the ten players expected to do well),” Shearer said to BBC.
It seems that the former Premier League striker isn’t expecting much from the Tottenham attacker in the World Cup.
It will be interesting to see if the 30-year-old can prove the doubters wrong and help South Korea have a memorable tournament in Qatar.
There is no doubt that Portugal and Uruguay have better squads compared to South Korea and the Asian giants will probably need a slice of luck coupled with outstanding performances in order to get to the knockout rounds of the competition.
