Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton expects Bryan Gil to leave the club soon.
The 21-year-old winger has had not ample opportunities to showcase his talents this season and he is yet to start a game for Tottenham. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and a move away from the London club would do him a world of good.
Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said that the player will quit Spurs if his situation does not improve soon.
Gil was regarded as one of the best young talents in Spain when he joined the London club. Needless to say, the move has not worked out for him yet.
He was on loan at Spanish club Villarreal last season and he did reasonably well for them. It will be interesting to see if he decides to return to La Liga when the transfer window opens in January.
Hutton claims that although Gil is a very skilful player, his physicality is an issue in English football. he added that a team like Valencia would be a good fit for the Tottenham winger if he decides to head home in January.
“His skill level is way up there, but his physicality is not there for the Championship.
“I have had to play there before. Everybody is 110 per cent committed, they are physical.
“If you are looking at going back to Spain, these type of things where his profile fits in so much better. He is technically gifted, he gets that time on the ball and makes things happen.
“He is probably looking to go back home, a team like Valencia that would suit his talents.“
It will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte is willing to let the player leave, especially without bringing in a replacement. Conte has been very vocal about not weakening the depth of his squad in recent months.
